Obamacare sign up 2015 is on!!
Basic Deadline Info
- The open enrollment period began on November 15, 2014 and will last until February 15, 2015.
- If you need your coverage to start on January 1, 2015, then you must enroll by December 15, 2014.
- February 15, 2015 is the last day that you can enroll where you will not receive a “fee per uninsured month” penalty for 2015.
- After February 15, 2015, you will receive the above mentioned penalty, unless you qualify for a special enrollment period.
New to Insurance
If you are new to healthcare insurance, then check out healthcare.gov or your state’s marketplace for available options. You will be able to estimate whether you will get a government subsidy and how much. If you choose to get insurance outside of the marketplace, then you will not be eligible for a subsidy even if you do qualify based on your income.
Already Enrolled in Marketplace
If you are already enrolled in the healthcare marketplace, this is the time to make sure you are getting the best possible coverage for your money. If you do nothing, in most cases you will be re-enrolled into your current healthcare plan. It’s an excellent idea to compare your current plan with the latest marketplace options to see if you can get a better deal. If your choices improve for 2015, then you can use that information to your personal and financial advantage.
Watching both of these videos from healthcare.gov can help solidify what you need to do if you are already enrolled in the marketplace.
Already Covered Outside Marketplace
If you already have a healthcare plan outside of Obamacare that meets the essential requirements and will renew for 2015 for a price that works for you, then you do not have to worry. It’s always good to compare what you have with other current available plans for you.
Missed Enrollment Period
If you don’t sign up during the open enrollment period, you may qualify for a special enrollment privilege. Otherwise you will pay a penalty for every month that you do not have healthcare insurance.
Obamacare sign up 2015 is a lot less intimidating than it was last year. Use this time to re-assess your life situation and make the best personal and financial decisions for you and your family. Woof!
