If you are participating in the latest ‘dress up your pet’  rage and looking to save money on pet costumes, the best time to buy is when the sales kick in right after Halloween.  You’re likely to find some excellent costumes for Tucker & Fido that you can use next year… or anytime 😉   There are a wide variety of pet costumes available for purchase or you can make your own.

Homemade Pet Costumes

Making your own pet costume can be the most simple and stress free way to go.  Unless of course you get out the sewing machine or a welding iron 😉 Look around the house for items to transform your pet into a fun character.  Search for simple pet costume ideas on the internet and you will find a wide variety of approaches.

Here is some fodder to get your imagination going:  Children’s clothes, cardboard signs, cotton balls, ribbons, hats, balloons, candy wrappers… and so on.

Find Pet Costume Deals

Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a costume than to make your own once you factor in the cost of supplies plus the time it takes to make a fancy pet costume.  If the scales tip in favor of a purchase, it may very well be a sigh of relief.

Wal-Mart and Target have some great prices on pet costumes, especially when they are on sale.  If you’re super short on time, Amazon.com has a nice selection of pet costumes.  There is nothing like hitting the submit button from your mobile device to unleash your dog’s ‘inner peacock’. 😉

Check out these photos taken yesterday at a  ‘Howl-O-Ween’ party and see if you can determine which pet costumes were purchased and which were homemade.  This crazy fun annual event is held every year on October 31 in Park City, Utah.

The Dogz have issued a formal statement regarding acceptability of pet costumes…

“In the spirit of fun, our humans can dress us up in costumes that make us look like complete idiots.  However, they must fit properly and not impair or interfere with any bodily function such as eating, seeing, breathing or pooping.  No costume shall be more than mildly annoying.”

If you need to save money on pet costumes, take advantage of post Halloween sales.  Also check out Wal Mart, Target, Amazon,  or make your own pet costume.   On line shopping can be super convenient and a time saver, but if a pet costume doesn’t fit, then it might be more of a hassle to send it back for a refund.  Running back to Wal-Mart for another size may not be as big of a deal depending on your circumstances.  Whatever you do, the most important thing is to make it low stress and as fun as possible for both you and Fido 🙂
